Opportunities

Holy Cross Associates, Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE), and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) are only three of the ways to volunteer after graduation.

Holy Cross Associates

Holy Cross Associates is run through the Holy Cross Priests and Brothers from the University of Notre Dame and other Holy Cross colleges and universities.  It offers participants an opportunity to integrate their Christian faith through service, community living, prayer, and a simple lifestyle.

Kelly Smith, a senior Elementary Education major at King's College, applied for the international program and is going to Chile for two years after graduation.  Her past volunteer experiences and meeting other volunteers inspired her to get involved with Holy Cross Associates.   Her mother, who "was always doing service and doing for others," influenced her to get involved.

She adds, "You need more experiences and this will make me test who I am.  It will make me turn my back on my comfort zone and make me stand up for myself."  Although she will leave her loved ones behind, she says she embraces the opportunity to learn from others.

Holy Cross Associates placements include:

  • Homeless Services
  • Education
  • Domestic Violence Survivors
  • Justice & Advocacy Issues
  • Community Organizing
  • Abused/Neglected Children
  • At-Risk Teens
  • Family Services
  • HIV/AIDS Services
  • Developmental Disabilities
  • Hispanic Outreach
  • Elderly Outreach

Volunteers in the United States have the opportunity to volunteer in Goodyear and Phoenix, Arizona; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Brockton, Massachusetts; Portland, Oregon; and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  There are also international opportunities in Santiago and Pocuro, Chile.  The program lasts one year for the domestic program and two years for the international program (plus time for language school).
