Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC)

The JVC is a domestic and international program which takes volunteers all over the world.  Hundreds of grassroots organizations across the country count on the Jesuit Volunteer Corps to provide essential services to low-income people and those who live on the margins of our society.

Jesuit volunteers serve:

  • the homeless
  • the unemployed
  • the elderly
  • the mentally ill
  • the developmentally disabled
  • refugees
  • street youth
  • people with AIDS
  • abused women and children

JVC has become the largest Catholic lay volunteer program in the country.

Domestic JVC placements require a one-year commitment; international placements require two years.  Work schedules depend on the job description; most follow a 40-hour week with weekends off; some jobs require evening, overnight, and weekend work.

The JVC has four values volunteers are expected to live by: Community, Simple Living, Social Justice, and Spirituality.

For more information regarding JVC, visit their website at http://www.wju.edu/jesuits/volunteers.html.
