VACANCY
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (11 Month)
DEPARTMENT:
POSITION REPORTS TO: Director
of Student Health Services
JOB FUNCTION: Under the general direction of the health center
director, performs overall nursing care for the provision of the basic health
care of the students of the college, including triage for walk ins and communicating
with patients.
1. Provide primary assessment and medical care for minor illness and
injuries.
2. Provide first-aide and emergency care under the standing orders of
the health
center.
3. Triage all medical calls and walk in patients for the health center.
4. Provide treatment as indicated and determine the necessity of
referral to other
health care providers, including the college physician, physician
assistants, counselor or outside institutions or agencies.
5. Give, arrange, supervise and coordinate nursing care of the sick and
injured for those members of the college community who come under the nurse’s
care.
6. Prepare patients, take vital signs, maintain exam rooms, and perform
routine diagnostic procedures as necessary.
7. Follow up and interpret medical report findings and treatment plans
to physician, physician assistant and /or patient.
8. Maintain current documentation of medical care in electronic medical records.
9. Maintain open lines of communication between the Student Health
Center and
clients (students and parents as appropriate).
10. Assist students and parents with insurance questions and concerns.
11. Provide health instruction and education to patients.
12.
Under medical direction, perform treatment and preventive procedures. When the physician or physician assistants
are not available, these treatments and tests may be carried out by a nurse
working under the standard written protocols and reported to the physician or
physician assistants as soon as possible.
13.
Give preventative immunizations and other required injections and tests.
14.
Perform
other related duties as may be assigned by the health center director that
relate to nursing care of individuals and to the development and operation of
the college health center.
15.
Independently
track, organize, and reorder supplies through established purchasing agreements.
16.
Collaborate
with director and other staff to update guidelines and create educational
programming for the college community.
17.
Maintain
updated local resources and provides referral information to providers and
patients.
18.
Maintain
clean, neat, organized and professional appearing work environment.
19.
Researches, creates, and presents patient
education materials and health promotion programming for students, RA’s, and
college community.
20.
Appraisal
and review of health records to assure that college requirements have been met.
21.
Track
compliance and develop a timely system and format to notify students of failure
to comply.
22.
Communicable
disease control in cooperation with the Public Health
Department if and when required.
23. Self-directed departmental record keeping, reporting
(annual, monthly and daily), and assessment/evaluation services.
24. Provide consultant services to instructors who may be
concerned about student medical problems.
25. Provide or
arrange health counseling, including emotional aspects, to
individuals seeking or needing this support.
26. Arrange for referrals and communicate pertinent
information to consulting physicians, hospital, clinic, or other agency.
27. Provide assistance and support as needed to the
physically disabled.
Standards of Practice
for College Health Registered Nurses
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation
from an accredited
Possess
a License as a Registered Nurse valid in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Four
years of active nursing experience; clinic or school nurse experience and
electronic medical record knowledge preferred.
Computer
and typing proficiency. Knowledge of word, excel and power point.
Satisfactory
references.
