POSITION:                              Internship Advising Coordinator

 

DEPARTMENT:                      Office of Career Planning

 

CLASSIFICATION:                 Part-time 24 hours/week

 

POSITION REPORTS TO:    Assistant Director for Internships

 

JOB FUNCTION: To provide support to the Assistant Director for Internships primarily in the areas of student intern preparation and technical support.

 

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS: 

1.       Acts as the initial point of contact for the Internship Program to provide basic information and appropriate action for students seeking information on internships.

2.       Provides one-on-one assistance to students in the preparation for internships including resume development, interview skills, and internship search techniques.

3.       Shares the responsibility of conducting information sessions and workshops for students preparing for the internship.

4.       Assists in advertising and marketing new internship opportunities.

5.       Creates new handouts and workshop materials as needed.

6.       Assist in the planning of workshop offerings.

7.       Coordinates the scheduling of all workshops and presentations.

8.       Monitors all intern weekly work hours.

9.       Compiles, updates and monitors program statistics.

10.   Provides technical support to the Director in program matters.

11.   Conducts career assessment and counseling services.

12.   Collaborates with faculty to conduct class career presentations.

13.   Implements outreach activities such as classes, residence halls, and other presentations on career related topics.

14.   Utilizes career planning software and occupational information websites to help students understand the world of work.

15.   Support Career Development Across the Curriculum.

 

NON-ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

1.       Performs other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Masters degree in Counseling, Education or appropriate related field with strong academic performance. Qualified individuals will demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills. Superior oral and written communication, analytical and technical skills. Ability to juggle multiple tasks while maintaining composure with an emphasis on teamwork. An interest in advising and assisting college students, while also performing administrative duties. Efficiency with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of experiential learning and the job search process desirable.
