POSITION REPORTS TO:
Director of Sports Information
JOB FUNCTION:
Assists Director of Sports Information in coordinating a comprehensive
program of publicity for Kings’ College’s intercollegiate athletic program via
local, regional, and national print, and electronic media.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
1.
Develops
relationships with members of the media.
2.
Provides game-day
and pre- and post- game information and results to media representatives
covering live games. Includes media
representatives for visiting colleges.
3.
Assists in
pitching story ideas; coordinates and schedules interviews of coaches and
student-athletes with media.
4.
Assists in
implementation of a comprehensive hometown news release programs for
student-athletes.
5.
Writing
athletic-related stories, as assigned, for “Pride” (King’s alumni magazine).
6.
Assist in
copy-writing and design of athletic-related publications, media guides, and
brochures.
7.
Serves as a
liaison between King’s College, the MAC, ECAC and NCAA.
8.
Compiles
statistics for varsity athletic teams and distributes them to NCAA, MAC, and
ECAC where appropriate.
9.
Produces and
distributes statistics and results of national and regional championship events
hosted by the college.
10.
Assists in the
development and maintenance of the athletics pages on the King’s College
website.
11.
Sells
advertising, where necessary, for sporting events and/or program guides.
12.
Assists with all
activities in press box for home football games; serves as a statistician for
all home football and basketball games; assists in monitoring and addressing
professional conduct of all press-box personnel where necessary.
13.
Travel with
King’s College teams, as assigned by Director of Sports Information.
14.
Assists in
recruitment and training of student statisticians for athletic events.
15.
Provides player
and statistical information to
opponents for program and publicity purposes.
16.
Administrative
duties assigned by Director of Athletics.
17.
Ability to work
weekends as well as nights is required as assigned.
18.
Ability to travel
independently to the college athletics fields when necessary.
NON-ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
1.
Performs other
related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS,
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
1.
Bachelors degree.
2.
Experience in
sports writing or having worked in a college sports information setting.
3.
Knowledge of NCAA
statistics and policies for reporting to both the NCAA and MAC.
4.
Knowledge of
computer statistics programs.
