How to Locate Links to Web Sites

Instructions:

How to locate web sites that are linked to a specific URL.

  1. Copy or record the URL address of the page that you are investigating.

  2. Choose an appropriate search engine.  Search in Altavista, Google, or other search engine that has the capability to perform this function.

  3. In the search box, type in link: plus the URL address with no space after the colon.
    Example: link:www.kings.edu

Note:

  1. link: will not work in combination with a regular keyword search.

  2. If no list is available, you may need to shorten the URL by eliminating sections located between the symbol / beginning from right to left.

Example: www.psy.pdx.edu/PsiCafe/Areas/ParanormalPsy/Dreams.htm

may be shortened to www.psy.pdx.edu/PsiCafe/Areas/ParanormalPsy/

or www.psy.pdx.edu/PsiCafe/Areas/, etc.

  1. Initiate the search.  The list that appears will contain web sites that contain one or more links to your site of interest.
