KING'S SOFTBALL FALLS TO RAMAPO 5-2 IN EIGHT INNINGS, ELIMINATED FROM NCAA TOURNEY

MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Ramapo College scored three runs in the decisive eighth inning to post a 5-2 victory over King's College in the NCAA East Regional Tournament Friday at Montclair State University.  With the loss, King's was eliminated from the ended its outstanding season at 34-9 record while 20th ranked Ramapo advanced in the loser's bracket, improving to 32-9.

Ramapo, ranked 20th in Division III, would take a 1-0 third inning lead when Ginny O'Brien led off with a single to left field and eventually scored from third on an infield out.

King's would tie up the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Becky Loring led off with a single to right field. Meaghan Galvin would reach on a bunt single and an overthrow on the play at first base allowed pinch runner Kaitlin Liszewski to score from third.

Ramapo took a 2-1 lead in the seventh when Katie Donnelly reached base on a bunt single, then stole second base. Lauren Cascino put the Roadrunners ahead 2-1 with an RBI double to right centerfield. 

In King's half of the seventh, Becky Loring singled up the middle and Galvin followed with a RBI double off the left field fence to bring in pinch runner Caitlin McAndrew, sending the game into extra innings tied at 2-2.

But the wheels came off for King's when Leah Mondadori stroked a one-out double to left centerfield. Michele Rossi then reached base on a Lady Monarch error, allowing Mondadori to score from second as Rossi advanced to third on the throw home. Gemma Chalkely and Beth Choma then came through with back-to-back RBI single to up the lead to 5-2.

In King's final at-bats, Abbey Knoblauch and Justine Maggio would register back-to-back singles to give King's hope. But two pop ups and a strikeout would keep the Lady Monarchs off the board as Ramapo held on for the victory.

Katie Norton (17-5) picked up the win for Ramapo, allowing nine hits and two runs, one which was earned. Kelsey Shreaves (14-5) took the loss for King's in relief of starter Amanda Rizner. Rizner pitched 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. Shreaves yielded three runs, none earned, on four hits.

Galvin and Loring led King's offensively with two hits each.  Ramapo was paced by Donnelly who was 3-for-4 while Cascino and Mondadori added two hits each.

Moravian eventually won the East Regional Championship and advanced to the College World Series.

The 2007 East Regional All-Tournament team included from King's Meaghan Galvin (2nd Base) and Becky Loring (at-large).

First Inning:
Katie Donnelly led off for Ramapo and struck out looking. Lauren Cascino grounded out to shortstop. Beth Choma grounded out to second base.... 0-0

Abbey Knoblauch led off for King's by popping out to the catcher. Justine Maggio grounded out to the pitcher for the second out. Leanne Harvey reached first base on a walk. Mari Valonis filed out to centerfield to end the inning.... 0-0

Second Inning:
Marilee Farmer led off the bottom of the second for Ramapo by grounding out to third base. Kelly Schriber singled up the middle. Leah Mondadori grounded to second and reached base on a fielder's choice as Schriber was missed on attempted tag at second base. Michelle Rossi reached first on a force out at third base for the second out. Gemma Chalkley flied out to centerfield to end the inning.... 0-0

Lindsey Hoerner led off for King's with a single up the middle. Becky Loring grounded into a double play. Meaghan Galvin lined out to the pitcher for the final out.... 0-0

Third Inning
Ginny O'Brien led off the third for Ramapo with a single to left field. Donnelly sacrificed O'Brien to second base. Cascino singled to left, advancing O'Brien to third.  The Roadrunners would take a 1-0 lead when Choma grounding out to second, scoring O'Brien and moving Cascino to second. Farmer grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning.... Ramapo leads 1-0

Sue Roccia led off the bottom of the third for King's by striking out.  Annie Drimones would reached base with a single to left field.  Knoblauch would reach base on a ground ball fielder's choice as Drimones was forced out at second for the second out.  Maggio would then strike out to end the inning.... Ramapo leads 1-0

Fourth Inning
Schriber led off the fourth for Ramapo by grounding out to short. Mondadori slapped an opposite field single to left. Rossi lined out to third base for the second out. Chalkley walked, moving Mondadori to second base. O'Brien grounded out to the3 pitcher for the third out.... Ramapo leads 1-0

In King's half of the inning, Harvey grounded out to third for the first out. Valonis grounded out to the pitcher. Hoerner grounded out to second for the final out.... Ramapo leads 1-0

Fifth Inning
Donnelly led off for Ramapo with a single down the first base line. Donnelly stole second base. Cascino grounded out to third base for the first out. Choma was called out at first when Donnelly ran to third and was called for interference on a ground ball to shortstop and was forced to return to second base. Farmer would draw a two-out walk. Schriber flied out to left field to end the inning.... Ramapo leads 1-0

Becky Loring would lead off the bottom of the fifth with a single to right field. Galvin would reach on a bunt single. An overthrow at first base allowed pinch runner Kaitlin Liszewski to score from third and Galvin advanced to third base. Sue Roccia struck out. Drimones lined out to third, Galvin tagged out to complete double play to end the inning.... Game tied 1-1

Sixth Inning
Mondadori grounded to second. Schriber grounded out to shortstop. Chalkley flied out to left field to end the inning.... Game tied 1-1

In King's half of the sixth frame Knoblauch lined out to right field. Maggio grounded out to the pitcher for the second out. Harvey would deliver a two-out single to left field. Valonis lined out to centerfield for the final out of the inning.... Game tied 1-1

Seventh Inning
O'Brien led off the top of the seventh for Ramapo by grounding out to the pitcher. Donelly would reach base on a bunt single, then stole second base. Cascino put the Roadrunners ahead 2-1 with an RBI double to right centerfield. After Kelsey Shreaves entered the game to pitch for King's in relief of Rizner, Choma grounded out to second base as Cascino moved to third. Farmer would pop out to shortstop to end the inning.... Ramapo leads 2-1

Hoerner led off the bottom of the seventh for King's by striking out. Loring would single up the middle and scored when Galvin drilled an RBI double off the left field fence to bring in pinch runner Caitlin McAndrew with the tying run. Pinch hitter Christie Parfitt struck out. Drimones then struck out to send the game into extra innings. Game tied 2-2

Eighth Inning
Schriber led off for Ramapo by flying out to center field. Mondadori doubled to left center field. Rossi then grounded to shortstop, resulting in a King's error and scoring Schriber from second base. Rossi would advance to third on the throw home. Chalkley then singled to center to bring in Rossi for a 4-2 Ramapo lead. O'Brien struck out swinging for the second out. Donnelly then singled up the middle to move Chalkley to second. Cascino reached base on another Lady Monarch error to load the bases. Choma then singled to right field to drive in another run for a 5-2 Roadrunner lead. Farmer popped out to the catcher to end the inning.... Ramapo leads 5-2

Knoblauch would reach base with a single to left field. Maggio followed with a single to center. Harvey flied out to left for the first out. Valonis struck out swinging for the second out. Hoerner would then line out to shortstop for the final out of the contest.... Ramapo wins 5-2 in eight innings.
