KING'S SOFTBALL REMAINS ALIVE WITH 3-0 WIN OVER GETTYSBURG, WILL FACE RAMAPO AT 6:00 P.M. GAME

ONTCLAIR, NJ -- Leanne Harvey (left) broke open a scoreless game in the sixth inning with an RBI double and freshman pitcher Lindsey Hoerner (below right) tossed a five hitter as the King's College softball team remained alive in the NCAA East Regional Championships with a 3-0 victory over Gettysburg College.

The game was delayed two hours and started at 2:00 p.m. after an early morning rain shower forced a rescheduling of the day's games.

With the win, King's improved to 34-8 on the year while Gettysburg ended its season at 25-15.

With the game tied 0-0 entering the sixth inning, King's would finally get on the scoreboard when Abbey Knoblauch singled to centerfield. Two batters later, Harvey stroked an RBI double to left centerfield, scoring Knoblauch from first base to give King's a 1-0 lead.

After Hoerner retired Gettysburg in order in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Monarchs would add two insurance runs in the seventh. Honesdale product Becky
Loring led off with a single to centerfield and Julie Bidwell followed with a base hit to center, moving pinch runner Kaitlin Liszewski to second base. Meghan Galvin came through with a critical a two-run double to right centerfield to give King's a 3-0 lead. 

In Gettysburg's final at-bat, Abbe Miller singled to left field with one out. Nicole Yannotta would then reach base on an error, but attempted to advance to third-base but was thrown out by Justine Maggio from centerfield for the second out as Yannotta advanced to second-base on the throw. Hoerner would induce Woodbury to ground out to second-base to end the game

King's registered seven hits, led by Galvin who was 2-for-3.  Hoerner (12-2) allowed five hits, but yielded just two after the third inning to register her second shutout of the year. A total of 16 Gettysburg outs were of the infield variety.

Kristy Rubino (19-8) took the loss for Gettysburg, allowing seven hits in the game.  Heather Sagaities led the Bullets by registering three of her team's five base hits.

With the win, King's continues on in the loser's bracket of the double-elimination event and will face Ramapo College Friday at 6:00 p.m. with the loser being eliminated from the tournament.

Julie Bidwell led off the third for King's popped out to short. Designated hitter Katie Fry drew a one-out walk. Meaghan Galvin reached base on a bunt single, moving Fry to second base. Knoblauch flied out to right field. Maggio struck out for the final out of the inning....0-0

Kara Kempski began the inning for Gettysburg by grounding out to second base. Megan Gorsuch grounded out to third. Sagaities doubled to right field. Dean grounded out to second to end the inning....0-0

Fourth Inning
Harvey popped out to short to start the fourth for King's. Valonis grounded out to third base. Hoerner struck out looking to end the inning....0-0

Ober grounded out to third for Gettysburg. Miller popped out to second base for the second out. Yannotta grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning....0-0

Sixth Inning
Galvin led off the sixth by striking out. Knoblauch singled to centerfield. Maggio popped out to third base for the second out. Harvey stroked an RBI double to left centerfield, scoring Knoblauch from first base to give King's a 1-0 lead. Valonis singled to left, moving Harvey to third. Hoerner popped out to third to end the inning.... King's leads 1-0

Gorsuch led off for Gettysburg by grounding out to third base. Sagaities reached base on an infield single. Dean grounded into a double play, third-to-second-to-first to end the inning.

Seventh Inning

Pinch hitter Annie Drimones popped out to short for the first out of the inning. Galvin would follow with a two-run double to right centerfield to give King's a 3-0 lead.  Knoblauch struck out swinging for the second out. Maggio grounded out to short for the third out.... King's leads 3-0

In Gettysburg's half of the seventh Ober would pop out to second base. Miller followed with a single to left field. Yannotta would reach base on an error, but was thrown out at third by Maggio for the second out. Yannotta advanced to second on the throw. Woodbury grounded out to second base to end the game.... King's wins 3-0
