KING'S SOFTBALL PLACES THREE ON EAST REGIONAL TEAM

WILKES-BARRE -- A trio of King's College softball players were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association East Regional All-American Team, the NFCA announced.

Senior first-baseman
Mari Valonis (Dickson City/Mid Valley) was named to the first-team and will now be placed on the ballot for the Division III All-American team. Sophomore pitcher Kelsey Shreaves Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) was a second-team choice while junior outfielder Leanne Harvey (Nanticoke/Nanticoke Area) was named to the third team.

Valonis (left) earned her fourth straight berth on the all-regional team and her third as a first-team selection.  The Lady Monarch standout, who was named a third-team Division III all-American a year ago, led King's to the 2007 Freedom Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  Valonis owns a .387 (48-124) batting average with 11 doubles, six home runs, and 35 RBI.   

Over the course of her brilliant career Valonis sports a .365 (187-512) batting average with 37 doubles, 12 triples, and school records of 32 home runs abd 180 RBI. She also boasts and outstanding .671 career slugging percentage. She was the 2006 Freedom Conference "Player of the Year" and a four-time All-Freedom Conference selection.

Shreaves
(right) concluded her first season as King's number-one starter, standing at 14-3 with a 1.92 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 102 innings and pitched a no-hitter April 18 against Keystone. She also hits .305 (18-59) with three doubles, two home runs, and 14 RBI.

Harvey (left) has enjoyed a soild year with a .373 (50-134) batting average, including nine doubles and 38 RBI while stealing 12-of-13 bases.  She was a second-team all-conference selection a year ago.

King's will compete in the NCAA Division III National Tournament Thursday through Sunday at Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ.
