KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS MISERICORDIA TO REGISTER
FOURTH STRAIGHT 30-WIN SEASON
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball prepped for this weekend
Freedom Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep of College
Misericordia Wednesday in Dallas.
With the win, the Lady Monarchs improved to 30-6 on the year, winning at
least 30 games for the fourth straight season. Misericordia, meanwhile,
slipped to 25-13 as the Cougars prepare to compete in the Pennsylvania
Athletic Conference Tournament.
In the opener, Abbey Knoblauch went 5-for-5 with a double and scored
three runs while Becky Loring was 2-for-4 with five RBI, including a
first-inning grand slam home run. Leanne Harvey was 2-for-5 with a
double and two RBI while Mari Valonis went 2-for-5 with an RBI double.
Julie Bidwell added two hits while Lindsey Hoerner added a solo home run
in the fourth inning. Kelsey Shreaves picked up the pitching win
fro King's, allowing 10 hits in six innings of work.
In the second game, King's trailed 3-2 in the seventh inning when Annie
Drimones led off with a base hit and stole second base. Drimones
would move to third when Harvey beat out an infield grounder, then
scored on an errant throw back to third base, allowing Harvey to advance
to third. Valonis would then bring home Harvey with what proved to
be the winning run on an infield ground out.
Hoerner was 2-for-2 with a run while Bidwell went 2-for-4 with one run.
Knoblauch was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Hoerner picked up the in in relief of starter Amanda Rizner, tossing the
final three and one-third scoreless innings.
King's will open up Freedom Conference tournament play when the
top-seeded Lady Monarchs face fourth-seeded Delaware Valley at 11:00
a.m. at Wilkes University.
