SHREAVES TOSSES NO-HITTER AS KING'S SOFTBALL
SWEEPS KEYSTONE
WILKES-BARRE -- Sophomore
pitcher Kelsey Shreaves (left)
tossed a no-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader as the King's
College softball team swept visiting Keystone College Wednesday at
Betzler Fields.
King's won the first game 18-2 before capturing the second game 11-0.
Both games were halted after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
With the sweep, King's improved to 22-6 on the year.
In the second game, Shreaves (9-2) held Keystone hitless and narrowly
missed a perfect game as the Lady Giants managed to place one runner on
base thanks to a second-inning King's error. Shreaves would then
retire the final 10 batters to end the game and finished the contest with
four strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
Abbey Knoblauch led King's in the second game by going 2-for-3 with two
RBI while Becky Loring continued her torrid hitting by finishing 1-for-2
with a three-run triple. Leanne Harvey and Mari Valonis also came
through with RBI singles while Caitlin McAndrew drove in a run for the
Lady Monarchs.
In the opener, King's scored early and often with five runs in the first
inning, three more in the second, and eight in the third.
Loring was 2-for-3 with five RBI and scored three
runs while Kaitlin Liszewski went 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI.
Harvey was 3-for-4 and scored three runs while Valonis and Meaghan
Galvin added run-scoring singles. Annie Drimones scored three runs while
Katie Fry drove in one run and scored three times in the contest.
Freshman pitcher Lindsey Hoerner picked up the win, allowing just one
hit and struck out six batters while improving to 6-2 on the year.
King's will next host Drew University Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
