VALONIS NAMED TO NFCA DIVISION III SOFTBALL
ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
WILKES-BARRE -- King's College softball standout
Mari Valonis (Dickson City/Mid Valley) has been named a third-team NCAA
Division III all-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
As junior first-baseman, Valonis enjoyed a
brilliant season in leading King's to a 38-9 record and a seventh
straight NCAA Division III National Tournament berth. The Lady Monarch
standout ranked among the leaders in virtually every MAC Freedom
Conference major offensive statistical category.
Valonis posted a stellar .420 (63-150) batting
average with 12 home runs, 11 doubles, four triples, 59 RBI, and scored
43 runs while posting a fine .787 slugging percentage.
She was named the 2006 Freedom Conference "Player
of the Year" and was a first-team NFCA East Region All-American. Valonis
is a three-time Freedom Conference all-star and a three-time East Region
All-American. She becomes the second King's player to earn all-American
honors in the last three years, joining Maria Zangardi who was a
second-team choice in 2004.
In the classroom, Valonis sports a 3.33
grade-point average as an accounting major and has been named to King's
Deans List on four occasions. She is a two-time NFCA Scholar
All-American and a two-time MAC All-Academic Team selection. She was
also recently selected to the ESPN the Magazine All-District II Academic
Team.
