VALONIS, KNOBLAUCH NAMED TO NFCA EAST REGIONAL
TEAM
WILKES-BARRE -- King's College softball standouts
Mari Valonis (Dickson City/Mid Valley) and Abbey Knoblauch
(Tamaqua/Tamaqua Area) have been named to the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association All-East Region Team.
Valonis was a first-team selection while Knoblauch
was a third-team choice.
The duo helped lead King's to a 36-7 record, a
second-place finish in the Freedom Conference Tournament, and the
program's seventh straight berth in the NCAA Division III National
Tournament.
A
junior first baseman, Valonis has enjoyed a stellar season, posting a
.432 (60-139) batting average with 11 home runs, 10 doubles, four
triples, 41 runs, and 57 RBI while registering a .799 slugging
percentage. Valonis ranks first in the Freedom Conference in batting
average, base hits, slugging percentage, RBI, and total bases (110)
while standing second in home runs, triples and runs scored.
Knoblauch,
meanwhile, has enjoyed an outstanding freshman campaign as the Lady
Monarch shortstop and leadoff hitter. Knoblauch stands second on the
team with a .407 (55-135) batting average with 10 doubles, six triples,
43 runs and 26 RBI. She ranks first in the Freedom Conference in runs
scored and triples, while standing second in batting average, base hits,
on-base average, and total bases (82).
King's will travel to Salisbury, Md. To compete in
the NCAA Division III National Tournament Thursday through Sunday with
the Salisbury Regional at Salisbury University.
