KING'S SOFTBALL IMPROVES TO 31-5 WITH SWEEP OF ELMIRA
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team reached the 30-victory
plateau as the Lady Monarchs posted a doubleheader sweep of Elmira
College Thursday in Elmira, NY.
King's won the first game 7-0 before capturing the nightcap 13-0 in five
innings to increase its season mark to 31-5.
In the opener, freshman Amanda Rizner tossed a complete-game four hitter
while striking out three batters. Annie Drimones led King's 11-hit
attack by going 3-for-3 with two steals. Mari Valonis was 2-for-4 with a
three-run triple in the first inning. Abbey Knoblauch was also 2-for-4
while Cassy Shiffer drove in a pair of runs. Ashley Sullivan, Justine
Maggio, Becky Loring, and Kari Leach all contributed base hits for the
Lady Monarchs.
In the second game, freshman Colleen Spadora threw a five-inning
shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out six batters. Sue
Roccia was 3-for-3 while Valonis went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
Knoblauch was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI while Leanne Harvey was
3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Kate Shiffer, Alyssa Wagner, and
Drimones all drove in one run to aid King's attack, which produced 13
base hits.
King's will next host FDU-Florham Saturday as part of Swing Away
Saturday. King's will honor its senior players while Greg Skrepenak,
Chairman of the Luzerne County Board of Commissioners. will throw out
the first pitch.
