KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS KEYSTONE, IMPROVED TO 27-5
LAPLUME -- The King's College softball team made easy work of Keystone
College with a pair of five-inning victories in a doubleheader Thursday
in LaPlume. King's won the first game 13-3 before taking the nightcap
21-0.
With the win, the Lady Monarchs improved to 27-5 on the year while
Keystone fell to 3-24.
In the opener, freshman Amanda Rizner picked up the win, allowing five
hits and three runs with two strikeouts in five innings of work. Annie
Drimones led King's 13-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two
steals while Mari Valonis went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Justine Maggio and
Becky Loring were both 2-for-2 with two RBI while Kate Shiffer went
2-for-3. Rizner helped her own cause by adding a single and two RBI.
In the second game, added 14 more base hits and took advantage of 10
walks issued by Keystone pitchers. Leanne Harvey was 4-for-4 with five
RBI, including a three-run triple in the third inning. Maggio was
3-for-4 with one RBI; Alyssa Wagner was 2-for-2 with two RBI; and Sue
Roccia went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Julie Bidwell and Caitlyn McAndrew also
added RBI singles. Nicole Conger picked up the pitching victory,
allowing one hit with four strikeouts. Colleen Spadora tossed two inning
of scoreless relief.
King's will travel to Madison, NJ to face Drew University Saturday in an
important Freedom Conference doubleheader at 1:00 p.m..
