KING'S SOFTBALL GOES 1-1 ON FIRST DAY OF SALISBURY INVITATIONAL
SALISBURY, MD -- The King's College
softball lost its first game, but then rebounded to win its second
during the first day of the Salisbury University Invitational.
King's fell to Christopher-Newport 8-7 in its first game, then responded
to best Allegheny 5-0 in its second contest. With the split, the Lady
Monarchs stand at 6-2 on the year.
Against CNU, King's trailed 7-1 before rallying with six runs in the
seventh to tie the game. Nikki Kotula delivered a two-run triple, while
Mari Valonis added a two-run home run. Julie Bidwell added a two-out RBI
double to tie the score. King's, however, would lose the game in
the bottom of the seventh as CNU scored an unearned run to win the game.
Kotula took the loss, allowing eight runs on six hits but was hurt by
six King's errors.
In the second game, Nikki Kotula gave King's a 1-0 first inning lead
when she drove in Abbey Knoblauch from third with a single. Mari Valonis
added a three-run home run in the fifth to drive in Kotula and Leanne
Harvey.
Amanda Rizner picked up the win in the circle with a three-hitter,
including four strikeouts.
