KING'S SOFTBALL GOES 1-1 ON FIRST DAY OF SALISBURY INVITATIONAL

SALISBURY, MD --  The King's College softball lost its first game, but then rebounded to win its second during the first day of the Salisbury University Invitational.

King's fell to Christopher-Newport 8-7 in its first game, then responded to best Allegheny 5-0 in its second contest. With the split, the Lady Monarchs stand at 6-2 on the year.

Against CNU, King's trailed 7-1 before rallying with six runs in the seventh to tie the game. Nikki Kotula delivered a two-run triple, while Mari Valonis added a two-run home run. Julie Bidwell added a two-out RBI double to tie the score.  King's, however, would lose the game in the bottom of the seventh as CNU scored an unearned run to win the game.

Kotula took the loss, allowing eight runs on six hits but was hurt by six King's errors.

In the second game, Nikki Kotula gave King's a 1-0 first inning lead when she drove in Abbey Knoblauch from third with a single. Mari Valonis added a three-run home run in the fifth to drive in Kotula and Leanne Harvey.

Amanda Rizner picked up the win in the circle with a three-hitter, including four strikeouts.
