KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS OPENER WITH PITT-BRADFORD
FT. PIERCE, FL -- The King's College
opened the 2006 season with a double-header split against the University
of Pittsburgh at Bradford Sunday in Ft. Pierce, Fla.
King's won the first game 2-1 while dropping the second 12-4.
In the opener, King's rode the pitching of junior Nikki Kotula who
allowed six hits and just one unearned run in seven innings while
striking out five batters. Freshman Abbey Knoblauch led the offense with
a 2-2 showing in her collegiate debut while knocking in one run. Cassy
Shiffer was 1-for-3 with a double while Kotula and Mari Valonis added
one hit each.
In the second game, Pitt-Bradford jumped on King's starter Nicole Conger
for eight earned runs on eight hits in one and two-thirds innings.
Colleen Spadora finished in the circle, allowing three earned runs on
four hits in three and one-third innings of work. Valonis led King's
with two hits, including an RBI. Leanne Harvey, Cassy Shiffer, and Julie
Bidwell all added RBI singles for King's.
