SIX LADY MONARCHS NAMED TO ALL-FREEDOM SOFTBALL TEAM

WILKES-BARRE -- Six members of the Freedom Conference champion King's College softball team have been named to the All-Freedom Conference softball team.

Earning first-team berths were senior shortstop Stacey Preambo (Jessup/Valley View), senior catcher Kristin Brady (Mayfield/Bishop O'Hara), and sophomore designated player Nikki Kotula (Dupont/Pittston Area).

Second-team choices include senior second-baseman Kelley Vaxmonsky (Jenkins/Pittston Area), senior pitcher Sarah Genewski (Palmerton/Palmerton), and sophomore first-baseman Mari Valonis (Throop/Mid Valley).

The Lady Monarch contingent led King's to a 31-10 record, a sixth straight Freedom Conference championship, as well as six consecutive berths in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Preambo boasts a team-best .375 (48-128) average with four home runs, eight doubles, and one triple, while posting a .547 slugging percentage. She also contributed 32 RBI while scoring a team-high 37 runs. Preambo is a four-time first-team All-Freedom selection.

Brady, two-time first team choice after earning second team laurels as a sophomore, bats .344 (45-131) with three home runs, eight doubles, and 33 RBI while posting a .504 slugging percentage. She is also an outstanding defensive catcher who has yet to commit and error in 241 chances this season while throwing out 14 of 21 runners attempting to steal.

Kotula batted .345 (40-116) with nine doubles, one home run, 23 RBI and scored 29 runs. Kotula posted a team-best 12-3 record with one save and a 1.83 ERA and a team-high 115 strikeouts in 107 innings. She pitched in 19 games with completed all 14 starts. Opponents batted just .162 against Kotula.

Vaxmonsky averages .352 (51-145) with a team-high of 12 doubles, while adding three triples, one home run, and 22 RBI while scoring 35 runs.

Genewski, who was a first-team choice in 2002, 2003 and 2004, was 11-5 with one save and a team-best 1.43 earned run average and 61 strikeouts in 112 innings of work. She pitched in 21 of the team's 41 games, including 15 starts with 13 complete games and four shutouts.

Valonis hits .320 (40-125) with eight home runs, four doubles, four triples, and a team-best .608 slugging percentage. Valonis ranks among the national leaders with 49 RBI while scoring 25 runs.
