KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH LEB-VALLEY
ANNVILLE -- The King's College softball
team prepped for the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament with a
doubleheader split with Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference
pairing Tuesday in Annville.
Lebanon Valley won the first game 3-2 before King's took the nightcap
7-6 in eight innings. With the split, King's ended the
regular-season with a 28-10 record while Lebanon Valley stands at 26-10.
In the opener, King's led 2-1 before the Flying Dutchmen scored two runs
in their final at-bat to pull out the victory. Stacey Preambo and
Justine Maggio were both 2-for-3 for King's while Kate Shiffer and
Ashley Sullivan added base hits. Sarah Genewski took the pitching
loss, allowing three runs, two which were earned, on seven hits while
striking out three batters.
In the nightcap, King's held a 5-0 lead before Lebanon Valley scored
five runs in the sixth to send the game into extra innings. The
Lady Monarchs score two run sin the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Mari
Valonis and an RBI double from Leanne Harvey. Lebanon Valley would add
an unearned run in the bottom of the inning as King's held on for the
victory.
Kelley Vaxmonsky was 3-for-4 with two triples while Harvey was 3-for-4
with two RBI. Preambo was 2-for-4 while Kristin Brady went 2-for-4 with
a solo home run. Genewski picked up the win in relief of starter Megan
Adams who tossed four shutout innings before giving way to Nicole
Conger, who yielded five runs in an inning, before Genewski closed out
the game.
King's will next compete in the Freedom Conference Tournament Friday and
Saturday at Wilkes. Second-seeded King's will face third-seeded Wilkes
Friday at 1:00 p.m.
