KING'S SOFTBALL SWEPT BY LYCOMING AS
15-GAME WIN STREAK COMES TO AN END
WILLIAMSPORT -- The King's College
softball team saw its 15-game wining streak come to an end as the Lady
Monarchs dropped both ends of a doubleheader to host Lycoming Saturday
in Williamsport.
With the sweep, Lycoming improved to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in the MAC
Freedom Conference while King's slipped to 22-6 and 6-2.
In the opener, Lycoming's Morgan Mantle tossed a two-hitter and struck
out 13 King's batters to post the victory. Kate Shiffer was 2-for-3 and
was the only Lady Monarch to register a base hit. Lycoming scored all
three runs in the fifth inning with two coming of King's errors.
Marianne Simpson was 2-for-3 with an RBI
while Christine Caroselli was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Sarah Genewski took
the loss for King's, allowing seven hits and just one earned run in the
game.
In the nightcap, Lycoming would score all the runs it would need when
Jana Reitz delivered a two-run home run. King's would cut the lead to
2-1 in the third when Stacey Preambo doubled and scored on an RBI single
from Kristin Brady. The lady Monarchs, however, would muster only one
more hit the rest of the game.
Kristin Reese picked up the pitching win for the Warriors, allowing two
hits and striking out seven while mantle pitched the seventh inning to
earn the save.
Nikki Kotula took the loss for King's, allowing just three hits while
striking out six batters.
King's returns to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. twin bill at College
Misericordia.
