KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS BAPTIST BIBLE TO SECURE NINTH
STRAIGHT 20-WIN SEASON
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team
reached the 20-win plateau for the ninth straight year as the Lady
Monarchs posted a doubleheader sweep of visiting Baptist Bible College
Monday at Betzler Fields.
King's won the first game 6-0 before taking the nightcap 9-5. In improving
to 20-4 on the year, the Lady Monarchs have won 20 or more games in a
season every year since the 1997 campaign.
In the opener, Megan Adams tossed a complete-game, five-hitter with five
strikeouts to earn the shutout win. Annie Drimones was 2-for-3 with an RBI
while Ashley Sullivan was 2-for-3 with a double and a three-run home run.
Cassy Shiffer was 2-for-3 and scored two runs while Stacey Preambo and
Mari Valonis added base hits for the Lady Monarchs.
In the nightcap, Justine Maggio was 3-for-3 with two
doubles and scored three runs to pace the Lady Monarch attack. Kelly
Vaxmonsky had a single and scored two runs while Preambo, Nikki Kotula,
and Kristin Brady added RBI singles. Kate Shiffer had a double while
Valonis drove in a run with a first-inning sacrifice fly.
Nicole Conger picked up the win, pitching five innings while allowing five
runs, two which were earned. Sarah Genewski came into the game in relief
and pitched two hitless innings of relief.
King's returns to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at
Cabrini College in Radnor.
