KING'S SOFTBALL ROUTES KEYSTONE IN TWIN BILL SWEEP
WILKES-BARRE --
The King's College softball team improved to 12-4 on the year with a
doubleheader sweep Thursday at Betzler Fields. The Lady Monarchs won the
first game 13-0 in five innings, then posted a 32-0 five-inning win in the
nightcap.
In the opener, sophomore Mari Valonis was 2-for-2 and belted a three-run
home run, her fifth four-bagger of the season. Kate Shiffer was
2-for-3 with two runs while Sara Rizzo was 2-for-2 with a run. Kelley
Vaxmonsky, Stacey Preambo, Kristin Brady all scored three runs for King's.
Megan Adams picked up the win, allowing just two hits while striking out
eight batters.
In the nightcap, King's scored 10 runs in the first inning, then added
nine more in the second to build a 17-0 lead. King's also scored 10 runs
in the fourth as 14 different Lady Monarchs crossed home plate thanks to
19 base hits and 14 walks issued by Keystone pitching.
Brady was 4-for-5 with five RBI and two doubles to lead the Lady Monarchs.
Kate Shiffer was 3-for-3 with three RBI and scored three runs. Valonis was
2-for-2 with two runs while Christine Uhl went 3-for-3 with two runs
scored. Ashley Sullivan also added a third inning three-run home run for
King's. Nicole Conger picked up the pitching win, allowing three
hits while striking out five batters.
King's will next host Scranton in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at
Betzler Fields.
