KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS FDU, KOTULA FANS 18 BATTERS
MADISON, NJ --
Nikki Kotula struck out 18 batters and knocked in the final run in extra
innings as the King's College softball team posted a doubleheader sweep of
host FDU-Florham Wednesday in Madison, NJ.
King's won the first game 1-0, then captured the nightcap 7-4 in nine
innings. With the win, the Lady Monarchs improved to 10-4 on the year and
2-0 in Freedom Conference play.
In the second game, Kotula was pitched all nine innings of the game and
fanned 18 FDU hitters, She allowed four runs on six hits and walked seven
batters.
With the teams tied at 4-4 entering the ninth inning, Cassy and Kate
Shiffer drew consecutive walks and later scored on a two-run double by
Kelley Vaxmonsky. Kotula then delivered an RBI single for the final run of
the game.
Vaxmonsky was 3-for-5 with two doubles top pace King's offensively. Annie
Drimones was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Kotula went 2-for-5 with a double.
Mari Valonis was also 2-for-4 for King's.
In the opener, the teams entered the seventh inning deadlocked at 0-0
before Valonis drilled a solo home run for the only run of the game. Sarah
Genewski tossed a complete-game one-hitter, striking out three batters.
King's will host Keystone College Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
