KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH NATIONAL POWERS CORTLAND, ITHACA
ALLENTOWN --
The King's College softball team split a pair of games with two of
the traditional powers in the NCAA Division III.
The Lady Monarchs dropped a 9-0 verdict to Cortland State University, but
rebounded with a 7-3 win in eight innings over Ithaca College. With
the split, King's stands at 8-4 on the year.
Against Ithaca, the teams entered extra innings tied 3-3 when the Lady
Monarchs pushed across four runs to emerge with the victory. Stacey
Preambo began the inning on second base per international tiebreaking
rules. Preambo would move to third on a single from Kristin Brady. Mari
Valonis then drilled a shot off an Ithaca infielder to score Preambo and
move Brady to third. Cassy Shiffer delivered a two-run single to give King's
a 6-3 lead. With two out, Kelly Vaxmonsky drilled an RBI double to bring
home Shiffer with the final run.
Nikki Kotula picked up the pitching win for King's, tossing a
complete-game four-hitter with five strikeouts. Brady led the team
offensively with a 3-for-4 effort while Kotula added two hits with an RBI.
Against Cortland, Sarah Genewski took the pitching loss, allowing all nine
ruins, including five which were earned. Vaxmonsky was the top
offensive player with a 2-for-3 showing while Kate Shiffer, Preambo, and
Brady added base hits for the Lady Monarchs.
