KING’S SOFTBALL WINS TWO TO REMAIN ALIVE IN NCAA REGIONALS

SALISBURY, MD – The King’s College softball team kept its NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional title hopes alive as the Lady Monarchs won a pair of games in the loser’s bracket on Saturday.

After dropping a 3-0 loss to Rutgers-Camden in the second-round on Friday, the Lady Monarchs bounced back by defeating McDaniel College 11-0 in five innings before knocking off Cabrini College 5-2. 

In the process, the Lady Monarchs set a new school-record for victories while improving to 39-9.  King’s bettered the previous best of 38 wins set in 2000.

Against McDaniel, Stacey Preambo was 3-for-4 with four RBI, including her 16th home run of the year.  Maria Zangardi was 2-for-3 while Kelley Vaxmonsky went 2-for-4. Cassy Shiffer was 1-for-3 with two RBI shile Linda Manarchuck was 1-for-3 with three RBI.  Nikki Kotula was 1-for-3 with an RBI and also picked up the pitching victory with a three-hitter.

In the second game against Cabrini, Zangardi was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.  Vaxmonsky was 2-for-4 with a double while Kristin Brady had an RBI double. Linda Manarchuck chipped in with a single and RBI.  Sarah Genewski picked up the pitching win, allowing five hits in five innings.  Kotula earned the save in pitching two scores innings of relief.

King’s will face a rematch with Rutgers-Camden Sunday at 12:00 noon in an elimination game to move on to the title pairing.  Rutgers dropped a 1-0 loss to top-seeded Salisbury in the championship bracket.  The King’s-Rutgers winner will then meet Salisbury for the Mid-Atlantic Regional title and must beat the Seagulls twice to secure the title.
