PREAMBO SETS HOME RUN RECORD AS KING'S SOFTBALL SPLIT WITH MISERICORDIA

WILKES-BARRE -- King's College junior shortstop Stacey Preambo broke the school single-season home run mark as the Lady Monarchs split a doubleheader with College Misericordia Wednesday at Betzler Fields.

King's won the first game 6-0 before the Cougars took the nightcap 4-2

In the opener King's led 1-0 in the third inning when Preambo tripled and scored on Kristin Brady single. Cassy Shiffer would late deliver an RBI single to give King's a 3-0 lead. The Lady Monarchs added three runs in the fourth when Kelley Vaxmonskey doubled and Linda Manarchuck singled. maria Zangardi delivered a two-run triple, followed by an RBI single from Shiffer.

Sarah Genewski picked up the shutout win, allowing seven hits., Zangardi and Vaxmonsky had two hits each to pace King's.

Laura Mushinski took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in three innings of work.. The Cougars were led by Tiffany Gray and Kristen Lazorka with two hits each.

In the nightcap, Misericordia held a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Linda manarchuck singled. Preambo then blasted a two-run home run over the left centerfield fence to give the Lady Monarchs a 2-1 lead. The home run was Preambo's 13th of the year, setting a King's single-season record.

The Cougars would answer in the sixth when Jen Gehman singled and Gray walked. Lazorka would then hit a three-run home run to give Misericordia a 4-2 lead and proved to be the winning runs.

Rachel Matthews earned the pitching victory, yielding five hits wit four strikeouts. King's starter Nikki Kotula (9-1) suffered her first loss of the year, allowing just four hits while striking out eight batters.

King's will next travel to face Wilkes Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Kirby Park in a battle for first place in the MAC Freedom Conference.
