KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH SCRANTON, PREAMBO TIES
SINGLE SEASON HOME RUN MARK FOR LADY MONARCHS
SCRANTON -- The King's College softball team split a
Freedom Conference doubleheader with the University of Scranton Monday at
Tripp Park, Scranton.
King's fell 12-6 in the opener before capturing the
nightcap 7-1. With the split, King's stands at 27-5 overall and 11-1 in
the Freedom Conference, while Scranton is 16-9 and 7-2.
In the first game, King's held a 3-2 lead before
Scranton banged out six hits and took advantage of a pair of Lady Monarch
errors to score eight runs in the frame to build a 10-3 lead. King's would
close to within 10-5 in the fifth when Stacey Preambo stroked a two-run
home run, equaling the Lady Monarchs all-time single-season record.
Preambo was 2-for-4 in the game while Maria Zangardi
was also 2-for-4, including a solo home run in the second inning. Sarah
Genewski (13-3) took the loss, yielding 10 runs, six which were earned in
just 2.1 innings of work.
In the nightcap, King's rode the arm of Nikki Kotula
who tossed a four-hitter in the game. The freshman hurler struck out four
batters and yielded one run in the fourth inning. Offensively, Kotula
aided her own cause by going 3-for-3 with three RBI and scored two runs.
Preambo was 2-for-4 with a double and scored a pair of runs. Cassy Shiffer
was 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
King's will play at Baptist Bible College Tuesday at
3:00 p.m.
