PREAMBO BELTS FOUR HOME RUNS IN KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEP

WILKES-BARRE -- Stacey Preambo drilled four home runs to power the King's College softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference matchup Tuesday at Betzler Fields.

With the sweep, King's improved to 22-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play while Delaware Valley fell to 6-18 and 1-9.

In the opener, Preambo ignited a five-run second inning when she led off with a solo home run. Kristen Brady would then walk, followed by a Sarah Genewski single. Christen Piccola would then reach base on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Leadoff hitter Kelley Vaxmonsky would then deliver a grand slam home run over the centerfield fence to give the Lady Monarchs a 5-0 lead.

King's then followed up with three more runs in the third inning. Maria Zangardi and Preambo would both single before Kristin Brady would reach base on an error, allowing both Zangardi and Preambo to score. Brady would later reach home on a wild pitch to give the Lady Monarchs a 8-0 lead.

King's would put the game away with four runs in the fourth inning. Zangardi reached base on an error before Preambo delivered her second home run of the game. Mari Valonis would single, followed by a double from Genewski. Cassy Shiffer would then drive in both runners with a single to bring the score to 12-0.

Preambo was 3-for-3 with three RBI and scored three runs while Genewski went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs. Zangardi was 1-for-3 and also scored two runs.

Genewski improved to 11-2 with the shutout pitching victory, allowing three hits in five innings while striking out three batters.

In the nightcap, King's tacked on a pair of runs in the first inning when Linda Manarchuck walked and stole second base. Preambo then followed with her third home run of the day over the left centerfield fence. The Lady Monarchs added three more runs in the second when Shiffer singled, Megan Adams walked, and Elizabeth Stella stroked an RBI single. After a wild pitch advanced the runners, Vaxmonsky would follow with an RBI single to plate Adams. Manarchuck would then drive in Stella with an infield grounder.

Preambo would lead off the third inning and promptly smacked a screaming line drive over the left field fence for her fourth home run of the day and hit her straight round tripper in as many at-bats, bringing her season total to 11 on the year.

Delaware Valley would score its lone run of the day in the fourth when Tammy Banks doubled and later scored on an infield error.

The Lady Monarchs closed out the scoring with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Vaxmonsky doubled and scored on a Manarchuck single. Manarchuck would eventually score from third when Preambo was finally corralled with an infield ground out.

The game would end in the bottom of the fifth inning due to lightning and heavy rains.

Preambo went 2-for-3 with four RBI and scored two runs in the nightcap. On the day, she was 5-for-6 with four home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored. Vaxmonsky and Shiffer added two hits each while Manarchuck drove in two runs while scoring a pair.

Adams (4-2) picked up the pitching win, allowing two hits and one run over four innings before Nikki Kotula pitched the final inning of the game.

King's will next host Lycoming in a key Freedom Conference matchup Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
