KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS DREW, 6-3 AND 7-3
MADISON, NJ -- The King's College softball team
continues to roll as the Lady Monarchs posted a doubleheader sweep over
host Drew University in a rematch of the 2003 Freedom Conference
championship Saturday in Madison, NJ.
The Lady Monarchs won the first game 6-3 before
taking the nightcap 7-3. With the sweep, King's improved to 18-4 and 4-0
in Freedom Conference play. Drew fell to 14-8 and 1-3.
In the opener, junior pitcher Sarah Genewski limited
the Rangers to six hits and just one earned run in the contest while
strking out five batters. Offensively, Cassy Shiffer was 3-for-3 with a
double while Mari Valonis added a two-run double. Kristin Brady added a
double and two RBI for the Lady Monarchs.
In the second game, freshman Nikki Kotula continued
her dominance with a two-hitter, striking out five batters while yielding
three unearned runs.
King's pushed across five runs in the third inning
to take command early. Kelly Vaxmonsky and Linda Manarchuck had
back-to-back singles before Maria Zangardi walked to load the bases.
Stacey Preambo delivered an RBI single followed by a walk to Brady to load
the bases. Valonis drove in a run on an infield out before Kotula stroked
a three-run double to cap the inning.
Preambo was 3-for-3 with a double and triple while
Vaxmonsky went 2-for-4. Kotula added a pair of doubles at the plate.
Bishop Hoban product Michelle Orloski took the loss,
allowing seven runs in two and two-thirds innings.
The Lady Monarchs will next host Cabrini College
Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
