KING'S SOFTBALL GAINS WINS OVER ARCADIA, MARYWOOD
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team
picked up a pair of non-conference victories Sunday as the Lady Monarchs
posted a 8-1 victory over Arcadia University, then followed with a 9-0
triumph over Marywood at Betzler Fields.
In the opening win over Arcadia, King's fell behind
1-0 after the Knights pushed a run in their first at-bats. The Lady
Monarchs countered in their half of the inning when Jess Harvey walked and
scored on a single by Stacey Preambo.
The game remained tied at 1-1 until the fourth
inning when King's capitalized on two Arcadia errors to take a 5-1 lead.
Kristin Brady drilled a two-run triple while Harvey and Kim Roman added
RBI singles in the inning. The Lady Monarchs would add two more runs in
the fifth when Ashley Sullivan walked and advanced on a base hit by Katie
Seguin. Roman would later hit a two-run double to push the score to 7-1.
King's added its final run in the sixth when Preambo reached base on an
error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sullivan.
Brady led the Lady Monarchs with three hits Preambo
and Maria Zangardi had two hits each. Sarah Genewski picked up the
complete game victory for King's, allowing just four hits while striking
out four batters.
Against Marywood, The Lady Monarchs took a 3-0 led
in the second inning when Preambo and Ashley Sullivan drew walks. After a
single by Kim Ball loaded the bases, Seguin added an infield hit to bring
home Preambo while Sullivan scored on a throwing error. Linda Manarchuck
then drove in a run with an infield out. King's added a run in the third
when Christen Piccola doubled and later scored on an error to give the
Lady Monarchs a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth, Manarchuck doubled and Harvey
singled, followed by a two-run double by Piccola to push the score to 6-0.
King's would close out the game in the sixth when Melia Barletta and
Harvey had consecutive singled and advanced to third and second on a
passed ball. After Barletta scored on an error, Maria Zangardi belted a
two-run triple to push the score to 9-0 and end the contest as the
eight-run rule was invoked.
Harvey and Piccola had three hits each to lead
King's offensively while and Seguin and Zangardi chipped in with two hits.
Megan Adams picked up the pitching victory for King's while Melissa Boyda
was awarded the save. The Lady Monarch duo led the Pacers to five combined
hits in securing the shutout victory.
Brightbill had a double for Marywood while Stacey
Cummings, Katie Kamosky, Carrie Danko and Liz Lilik had singles for the
Pacers.
