KING'S SOFTBALL PREPS FOR FREEDOM CONFERENCE TOURNEY
WITH SWEEP OVER LEBANON VALLEY
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team
prepped for this weekend's MAC Freedom Conference Tournament with a
doubleheader sweep over visiting Lebanon Valley College Monday at Betzler
Fields.
The Lady Monarchs won the first game 7-1 before
capturing the nightcap 7-3 to improve to 20-9 on the year
In the opener King's was led by Kristin Brady who
went 2-for-3 with a double. Maria Zangardi was 2-for-4 with a two-run
triple. Linda Manarchuck was 2-for-4 with an RBI triple while Katie Seguin
went 2-for-3 with and RBI. Cassy Shiffer, Liz Stella, and Kim Roman also
contributed base hits for the Lady Monarchs. Sarah Genewski picked up the
pitching victory, improving to 11-6 on the year. Genewski allowed six hits
and posted five strikeouts.
In the second game, the Lady Monarchs overcame a 2-0
first inning deficit to earn the victory. King's was also led by Zangardi
who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a three-run home run in a four
run second inning for the Lady Monarchs. Stacey Preambo was 2-for-3 while
Brady was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jess Harvey was also 2-for-3 and scored a
pair of runs. Megan Adams picked up the win in relief of starter Melissa
Boyda and pitched the final six innings, allowing four hits and one run to
improve her record to 5-1 on the year.
King's will host the double-elimination MAC Freedom
Conference Tournament Friday and Saturday at Betzler Fields. King's, the
three-time defending conference champion, will face Lycoming College at
1:00 p.m. Drew will meet DeSales in the other first-round game.
The winners will then meet at 3:00 p.m. Play will resume Saturday at 9:00
a.m. with the tournament champion earning an automatic berth into the NCAA
Division III National Tournament.
