KING'S SOFTBALL CLINCHES MAC PLAYOFF BERTH WITH
SWEEP OF FDU
MADISON, NJ -- The King's College softball team
clinched an MAC Freedom Conference playoff berth with a doubleheader sweep
of host FDU-Florham Tuesday in Madison, NJ.
King's, which has won three consecutive MAC Freedom
championships, won the opener 3-0 before capturing the nightcap 7-0. In
the process, the Lady Monarchs improved to 18-8 overall and 9-3 in
conference action. FDU fell to 8-16 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
In the opener, King's scored the first run of the
game n the sixth inning when Jess Harvey walked and later scored on an RBI
single from Stacey Preambo. The Lady Monarchs added two more runs in the
seventh when Maria Zangardi's RBI single drove home Linda Manarchuck to
give King's a 2-0 lead. The Lady Monarchs added an insurance run when
Katie Seguin scored on an error. Sarah Genewski picked up the complete
game victory for King's with a five-hitter.
In the nightcap, Melissa Boyda also threw a five-hit
shutout for the Lady Monarchs. Manarchuck was 2-for-2 with a triple to
pace King's offensively. Jess Harvey was 1-for-1 with two RBI. Kristen
Brady was 1-for-4 with a home run while Ashley Sullivan and Liz Stella
added doubles. Zangardi, Kim Roman also added hits for the Lady Monarchs
who will next host DeSales University Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader
at Betzler Fields.
