ADAMS HURLS NO-HITTER AS KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS BBC
WILKES-BARRE -- Sophomore pitcher Meghan Adams of
Nanticoke Area tossed her first collegiate no-hitter as the King's College
softball team posted a 11-0 five-inning victory over Baptist Bible Monday
at Betzler Fields. The Lady Monarchs then gained a 14-0 five-inning win in
the second game to sweep the double-header.
In the opener, Adams took a perfect game into the
fifth inning. But with two out, a Lady Monarch infield gave the Defenders
their first runner of the game and forced Adams to settle for the
no-hitter.
Offensively, King's was led by Maria Zangardi who
was 2-for-3 with a three-run triple and Kim Roman who went 2-for-2 with a
two-run triple.
In the nightcap, King's sophomore Melissa Boyda
pitched a five-inning one hitter while allowing just two base runners in
the contest. Boyda surrendered a single to Baptist Bible leadoff hitter
Jen Dunbar before retiring 11 straight batters. After a King's error in
the fourth inning, Boyda would retire the final four batters of the game.
King's offensive assault was led by sophomore
Kristin Brady of Bishop O'Hara who drilled a third inning grand slam home
run. West Scranton's Katie Seguin, Cassy Shiffer of Tunkhannock, and Brady
all scored two runs for King's, which improved to 9-5 on the year.
The Lady Monarchs will host Keystone College
Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
