DREW ELIMINATES SCRANTON IN MAC FREEDOM PLAYOFFS TO MOVE INTO FINAL
VERSUS KING'S
WILKES-BARRE -- Drew University overcame a 4-1 deficit by scoring eight
runs over their final three at-bats as the Rangers eliminated the
University of Scranton 9-4 in the semi-finals of the MAC Freedom
Conference Softball Championships Saturday at King's College's Robert L.
Betzler Fields.
Scranton took a 1-0 lead in the second when Megan Wasilik doubled and
scored on a single by Kim Pregnar. Drew countered with a run of its own
when Debbie Waz doubled and later scored unearned on a Lady Royal error.
Scranton would take a 4-1 lead in the top half of the third inning when
Beth Mullen reached base on an error followed by a walk to Shalissa
Dougherty. Tracy Granozio advanced both runners with a bunt before
Wasilik stroked a two-run single to right field, while a third run would
score on a Drew fielding error on the play.
The Rangers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning when
Kristen Mignoli singled and scored on a double by Tara Duffy. After a
single by Shanna Peras, Alex McCaffrey drove in a run with a double. Waz
then came through with an RBI single to knot the score at 4-4.
The game remained tied until the bottom-of-the-fifth inning when Waz
singled and Allie Grill doubled. Michelle Callen then drove hone two runs
with a single to give the Rangers a 6-4 lead.
Drew would put the game away with three runs in the sixth on an RBI double
by Peras and a run-scoring single by Grill, coupled with a Lady Royal
error.
Wasilik led Scranton (14-20) with two base hits and two RBI. Drew was led
by Waz who was 3-for-4 while Mignoli, Duffy, Peras, and Grill had two hits
each. The Rangers (27-13) advanced to face King's in the MAC Freedom
Conference title game.
