DREW RALLIES TO ELIMINATE LYCO IN MAC FREEDOM PLAYOFFS
WILKES-BARRE -- Drew University rallied from a 3-1 deficit by scoring
three runs in the final two innings to post a 4-3 victory over Lycoming in
the loser's bracket of the MAC Freedom Conference playoffs Saturday at
King's College's Robert L. Betzler Fields.
Trailing 3-1 in the
sixth, Drew (26-13) capitalized on a Lycoming error, allowing Alex
McCaffrey to reach base. After McCaffrey moved to second on an infield
out, Allie Grill delivered an RBI singe to cut the lead to 3-2. After
another infield grounder moved Grill to second, Allie Robbins singled home
Grill to tie the game at 3-3.
After sitting down
the Warriors in order in the top of the seventh, Drew struck quickly when
Kristen Mignoli led off the bottom half of the seventh with a double.
After Tara Duffy reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Mignoli to
advance to third, Shanna Peras soft infield fly resulted in a double play
as Duffy was nailed at first base.
With two outs, McCafrfey ripped a single to centerfield, allowing MIgnoli
to score the winning run and keep the Rangers alive in the
double-elimination event with a match against the University of Scranton.
Mignoli, Duffy, and
Grill had two hits each to pace the Rangers offensively. Erica
Mehalick picked up the pitching win with a complete-game effort, allowing
seven hits and striking out four batters.
Adrienne Wyrda and Jesica Feerrar had two hits each to lead Lycoming while
Amanda Gery took the complete game loss. Gery allowed nine hits and struck
out three batters. The Warriors ended their season with a 17-17
mark.
