PREAMBO WALK-OFF HOME RUN PROPELS KING'S TO 2-1 EIGHT INNING WIN OVER LYCOMING

(Gigliello Gains 200th Coaching Win)

WILKES-BARRE -- Freshman Stacey Preambo drilled an opposite field walk-off home run with one out in the eighth inning as the host King's College softball team posted a thrilling 2-1 triumph over host Lycoming College Friday in the first-round of the MAC Freedom Conference Championships at Robert L. Betzler Fields.

With the win, second-seeded King's improved to 32-8-1 and advances to the second-round of the playoffs. Third-seeded Lycoming fell to 17-16 and moves into the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

In the process, King's presented ninth-year head mentor Lisa Gigliello with her 200th career coaching win at King's.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom half of the eighth inning, Preambo came to bat with a hot hand in posting a single and double in three previous at-bats against Lycoming freshman standout pitcher Amanda Gery. Preambo then drilled a 1-1 pitch to over the right field fence to register a dramatic walk-off home run for the Lady Monarchs.

Lycoming took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Marianne Simpson walked and Jessica Feerrar reached base on Ball error. After Amy Curry walked to load the bases, Dara Deitrich lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Simpson and give the Warriors a brief lead.

King's quickly countered in its half of the inning when Lisa Rizzo singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maria Zangardi. Jess Harvey then stroked a single up the middle to bring home Rizzo and tie the score at 1-1.

The game would remain tied until Preambo's game winning home run, her fourth of the season.

Karen Ball picked up the pitching win for King's in tossing a complete-game four-hitter while striking out three batters. Gery took the loss, allowing eight hits while posting one strikeout.

The Lady Monarchs advanced to play Scranton in the winners' bracket semi-finals while Lycoming will next play top-seeded Drew, which lost to Scranton 9-0 in the other first-round pairing.
