DLUGOSZ BREAKS NCAA CAREER STEALS MARK AS LADY MONARCHS SPLIT WITH LVC
ANNVILLE -- Senior centerfielder Michele Dlugosz (Hatfield,
PA/Lansdale Catholic) snapped the NCAA Division III career record for
stolen bases as the King's College softball team split a doubleheader with
Lebanon Valley College Monday in Annville.
King's dropped the first game 8-3 before winning the nightcap 5-2.
Dlugosz entered the twinbill tied for the record at 150 with JoAnn
Heckethorn who set the record during her career at the College of New
Jersey between 1991-94. Dlugosz broke the mark in the fifth inning
of the first game when she slapped a single down the left field line, then
took off on the first pitch to successfully swipe her 151st career stolen
base.
In the nightcap, Dlugosz stole two more bases, one in the first inning and
another in the third inning, to push her new record to 153 steals. The
Lady Monarch standout has stolen 39-of-42 bases on the year and 153-of-162
during her four-year career.
Jess Harvey led King's in the second game with a 2-for-4 effort including
a double and RBI. Linda Manarchuck was 2-for-3 with an RBI triple.
Lisa Rizzo, Maria Zangardi, Stacey Preambo, and Katie Seguin all hit
safely for Kings, which stands at 31-6-1 on the year.
The Lady Monarchs will entertain Cabrini College Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
Betzler Fields. King's will then host the MAC Freedom Conference
playoffs Friday and Saturday.
