DLUGOSZ SLUGS TWO HOME RUNS TO PACE LADY MONARCHS OVER SCRANTON

SCRANTON, Pa.—Senior Michele Dlugosz (Hatfield, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) belted two home runs—her second and third of the season—to lead King’s College to a sweep of The University of Scranton in Freedom Conference action Thursday afternoon at Tripp Park.

Her first home run couldn’t have come at a better time.

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Dlugosz hit a two-run shot to left centerfield to tie the game and send it into extra innings.  Freshman Stacy Preambo (Jessup, Pa./Valley View) then led off the eighth inning with a double and scored the game-winning run on an rbi single by Kim Ball (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) as the Monarchs pulled out a dramatic 4-3 victory.

Dlugosz finished with two hits and sophomore Linda Manarchuck (Eynon, Pa./Valley View) added three to back up winning pitcher Karen Ball (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), who improved to 12-3 on the season by scattering nine hits and striking out two.

Sophomore Jennifer Miller had two doubles and an RBI. Losing pitcher Sarah Rhodes (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) was brilliant in defeat, striking out ten batters and walking only one.

The Lady Monarchs fell behind in the second game 2-1 after three innings, but scored eight times over the next four frames to post a 9-2 victory. Dlugosz hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh and Maria Zangardi (Pittston Township, Pa./Seton Catholic) belted out two doubles and drove in a pair of runs to help winning pitcher Sarah Genewski (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton) improve to 10-1 on the season.

Miller had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs and Kelly Gaynor (Hyde Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) had two hits for Scranton, which fell to 10-14 overall and 4-4 in the Freedom Conference. King’s is now 26-5 overall and 8-2 in league play.
