KING'S SWEEPS MISERICORDIA TO IMPROVE TO 17-2-1
DALLAS -- The King's College softball team improved to 17-2-1 with a
doubleheader sweep over College Misericordia Tuesday in Dallas. The Lady
Monarchs won the first game 3-2 in eight innings, then captured the
nightcap 4-1.
In the opener, King's trailed 2-1 entering the seventh inning when
Michele Dlugosz reached first on an error , then stole second base. Lisa
Rizzo then came through with an RBI single to knot the score at 2-2 and
send the game into extra innings.
Using the international speed-up rule, Suzanne Smith began the eighth at
second base and moved to third on a single by Katie Seguin. Smith would
then score on Stacey Preambo's infield ground out to give the Lady
Monarchs a 3-2 lead. From there, King's pitcher Karen Ball induced
the Cougars into a pair of infield pop outs and an infield line drive to
close out the game.
In the nightcap, King's took a 2-0 lead in the second when Smith reached
on an error followed by a Katie Seguin single. After both runners moved
to third and second bases respectively, Linda Manarchuck came through
with a two-run single. The Lady Monarchs added a run in the fourth when
Seguin doubled and scored on a single by Stacey Preambo.
King's closed out the scoring in the fifth when Jess Harvey drilled a
mammoth solo home run. Harvey, Seguin, and Maria Zangardi has two hits
each for King's while Genewski tossed a five-hitter, allowing just a
second-inning unearned run.
