KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS DEL-VALLEY TO IMPROVE TO 15-2-1
WILKES-BARRE The King's College softball team kept its winning ways
intact as the lady Monarchs posted a doubleheader sweep over Delaware
Valley College Wednesday at Betzler Fields.
The Lady Monarchs won the first game 8-0 in five innings before posting
a 2-0 win in the nightcap. King's improved to 15-2-1 overall and 2-0 in
MAC Freedom Conference action.
In the opener, King's took a 2-0 second inning lea when Katie Seguin
singled and Kim Ball and Linda Manarchuck drew consecutive walks to load
the bases. Michele Dlugosz them lofted a sacrifice fly to score
Seguin before Lisa Rizzo picked up an RBI with an infield ground out to
second base.
King's added a run in the thirds when Jess Harvey tripled and scored on
an infield grounder but Suzanne Smith.
King's tacked on four runs in the fourth inning when Ball walked,
Manarchuck singled and Rizzo walked to load the bases. Maria Zangardi
then drilled a two run single before Harvey added a sacrifice fly. The
Lady Monarchs added its final run of the game in the fifth inning when
Manarchuck singled, stole second base and scored on a base hit by
Michele Dlugosz to end the game. Karen Ball picked up
the win with the complete game shut out, scattering six hits with two
strikeouts.
In the nightcap, King's took a 1-0 lead in the third when Zangardi was
hit by a pitch and scored when Harvey ripped a long triple to right
field, narrowly missing a home run as the ball hit the top of the fence.
Zangardi would then score the game's final run in the fifth inning
when she tripled and scored on a Harvey sacrifice fly. Seguin led
Kingšs offensively with two base hits. Freshman pitcher Sarah Genewski
improved to 5-0 with a two-hit shutout and maintained a perfect 0.00 ERA
for the season.
