KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS IN FINAL DAY OF SALISBURY INVITATIONAL
SALISBURY, MD -- The King's College softball concluded a strong showing
at the Salisbury University Invitational Tournament by going 1-1 on the
final day to post a 3-1 mark in the two-day event.
King's dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to host Salisbury, before
posting a 3-2 win over Bates University of Maine. The Lady
Monarchs improved to 11-2-1 on the year.
Against Salisbury, Karen Ball took the pitching loss in allowing seven
hits to the Sea Gulls. Jess Harvey led the way offensively
with a 3-for-4 showing. Sarah Genewski was 2-for-3 while Maria
Zangardi, Katie Seguin, and Linda Manarchuck had one hit apiece.
In the nightcap, Sarah Genewski picked up the pitching victory by
tossing a three-hitter at Bates. Suzanne Smith came trough in the
seventh inning with the game-winning RBI single for the lady Monarchs.
She was joined offensively by Zangardi who was 2-for-3 with an
RBI, while Christen Piccola was 1-for-2 with an RBI triple.
King's will travel to Scranton Thursday at 2:30 p.m. for its MAC Freedom
Conference opener against the Lady Royals. The Lady Monarchs are
in search of a third straight conference crown.
