LADY MONARCH SOFTBALL SWEEPS NEUMANN, IMPROVES TO 4-0
FT. PIERCE, FL -- The King's College softball team improved to 4-0
on the year with a doubleheader sweep over Neumann College. King's
won the first game 9-0 before posting a 14-0 decision while improving to
7-1 on the year.
In the opener, King's broke open a scoreless game with a three-run fourth
inning. Lisa Rizzo tripled and scored on a single by Maria Zangardi.
Kim Ball reached base on a fielders choice and Zangardi would later
score from third on a passed ball. King's added its third run when Ball
eventually scored on an infield error.
The Lady Monarchs then put the game away in the fifth inning with four
runs. Linda Manarchuck singled and stole second base, then scored on a
base hit by Lisa Rizzo. Zangardi walked before Jess Harvey delivered an
RBI single. King's then added two more runs off a Neumann error to take a
7-0 lead into the sixth. From there, Stacey Preambo drilled a
two-run home run to round out the King's scoring.
Karen Ball picked up the pitching win with a two-hitter, striking out four
batters.
In the second game, King's scored three runs in the first, then added a
run in the third and two more in fifth inning to build a 6-0 lead. The
Lady Monarchs then exploded with a eight-run sixth inning. Rizzo,
Zangardi, Harvey, Kim Ball, Preambo, Katie Seguin, and Sarah Genewski
combined for seven consecutive singles in the inning to put the game
away.
Harvey finished the day 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI; Rizzo was
also 3-for-3 with two runs. Michele Dlugosz went 3-for-5 and scored three
runs while Seguin added two base hits. Melissa Boyda picked up the
pitching win in yielding just one hit while striking out three batters.
