LADY MONARCH SOFTBALL SWEEPS NEUMANN, IMPROVES TO 4-0

FT. PIERCE, FL --  The King's College softball team improved to 4-0 on the year with a doubleheader sweep over Neumann College.  King's won the first game 9-0 before posting a 14-0 decision while improving to 7-1 on the year.

In the opener, King's broke open a scoreless game with a three-run fourth inning. Lisa Rizzo tripled and scored on a single by Maria Zangardi.  Kim Ball reached base on a fielders choice and Zangardi would later score from third on a passed ball. King's added its third run when Ball eventually scored on an infield error.

The Lady Monarchs then put the game away in the fifth inning with four runs. Linda Manarchuck singled and stole second base, then scored on a base hit by Lisa Rizzo. Zangardi walked before Jess Harvey delivered an RBI single. King's then added two more runs off a Neumann error to take a 7-0 lead into the sixth.  From there, Stacey Preambo drilled a two-run home run to round out the King's scoring.

Karen Ball picked up the pitching win with a two-hitter, striking out four batters.

In the second game, King's scored three runs in the first, then added a run in the third and two more in fifth inning to build a 6-0 lead.  The Lady Monarchs then exploded with a eight-run sixth inning.  Rizzo, Zangardi, Harvey, Kim Ball, Preambo, Katie Seguin, and Sarah Genewski combined for seven consecutive singles in the inning  to put the game away.

Harvey finished the day 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI; Rizzo was also 3-for-3 with two runs. Michele Dlugosz went 3-for-5 and scored three runs while Seguin added two base hits.  Melissa Boyda picked up the pitching win in yielding just one hit while striking out three batters.
