SOFTBALL GOES 3-1 ON WEDNESDAY
FT. PIERCE, FLA -- The King’s College
softball team continued play on Wednesday
with a doubleheader sweep of Division II David & Elkins College,
before splitting a doubleheader with NAIA
Division II Palm Beach Atlantic College.
In their first tow games of the day, King’s
defeated Davis & Elkins 6-1 and 9-0
in five innings. The Lady Monarchs then defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 4-3
in the opener before falling 7-6 in the
nightcap. King’s stands at 3-1 on the year.
In the opener against Davis & Elkins,
freshman Sarah Genewski tossed a complete-game
five-hitter with five strikeouts for the Lady Monarchs. In the second
game, freshman Megan Adams of Nanticoke picked up the pitching win in
allowing two hits in three innings. Melissa
Boyda pitched the final two innings
and did not allow a base hit. Christen Piccola had three hits and an
RBI, Jess Harvey added two hits and two RBI
while Maria Zangardi of Seton Catholic
knocked in two runs for the Lady Monarchs.
In the first game against Palm Beach
Atlantic, King’s trailed 3-2 in the final
inning when Katie Seguin and Linda Manarchuck both singled and eventually
scored on a two-run single by Lisa Rizzo. Kim Ball picked up the win
in pitching a complete-game four-hitter without allowing an earned run.
In the nightcap, Suzanne Smith took the
loss for the Lady Monarchs in allowing
eight hits with six strikeouts. Michele Dlugosz was 2-for-4 with an
RBI while Jess Harvey went 3-for-3 with a
solo home run.
