KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS WILMINGTON
FT. PIERCE, FL -- The King's College softball team opened the 2002
campaign on a high note as the Lady Monarchs posted a doubleheader
sweep of Wilmington (De.) College in Ft. Pierce, Fl.
King's won the first game 9-1, before taking the nightcap 3-2.
In the opener, Michele Dlugosz led the way with a 2-for-3 showing with a
home run and five RBI. Lisa Rizzo was 2-for-2 and scored three runs.
Jess Harvey went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Linda Manarchuck was
2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Karen Ball picked up the pitching victory with a five-hitter while
striking out three batters and waling just one.
In the second game, King's trailed 2-1 in its final at-bats when Maria
Zangardi led off with a walk and Harvey followed with a single. After an
infield pop out, Kim Ball delivered an RBI single to tie the score at 2-2.
Katie Seguin then followed with a run scoring single to put the Lady
Monarchs on top 3-2. From there, King's starting pitcher Suzanne
Smith shut down Wilmington in their last attempt at the plate to secure
the win. Smith allowed seven hits and struck out five batters.
