KING'S PLACES THREE ON ALL-FREEDOM
CONFERENCE TEAM
WILKES-BARRE -- Three members of the King's
College softball team have been named to the 2008 All-Freedom Conference
squad, the Middle Atlantic Conferences Office announced Monday.
Earning a spot on the first team for a third consecutive year was junior
infielder Abbey Knoblauch (Tamaqua/Tamaqua), while senior
outfielder Leanne Harvey (Nanticoke/Nanticoke Area) and sophomore
pitcher Lindsey Hoerner (Annville/Northern Lebanon) were named to
the second-team.
Knoblauch
battled through a painful hip injury for much of the season, yet still
managed to post a .396 (40-101) batting average with three home runs,
three doubles, 13 RBI, and scored 21 runs while drawing 19
bases-on-balls. She also tallied 52 total bases and posted a .515
slugging percentage. Knoblauch, who has been King's starting shortstop
throughout her career, was moved to second-base for the final three
weeks of the season as the injury affected her ability reach balls she
would normally be able to field. The injury also forced her to miss
three games.
Harvey
started all 33 games as the Lady Monarchs' left fielder and finished the
year with a .361 (39-108) batting average with six doubles, two home
runs, 20 runs scored, and 18 RBI. She registered 51 total bases and
posted a .472 slugging percentage. Harvey was a second-team pick as a
sophomore before earning first-team laurels as a junior in 2007. She
concludes her King's career with a fine .357 (146-408) batting average
with 29 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 88 RBI and scored 95 runs.
Hoerner,
meanwhile, enjoyed a strong year not only as a pitcher, but also at the
plate. In the circle, she posted a 10-7 record with a team-best 1.89
earned run average while leading the team with 68 strikeouts in 107 and
two-thirds innings. Offensively, she led the Lady Monarchs with a .417
(30-72) average with six home runs, six doubles, and 24 RBI. She netted
54 total bases and a .750 slugging percentage.
King's finished the year with a 20-13 record as the team reached the
20-win plateau for the 12th straight season.
