KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS FDU IN KEY LEAGUE TWIN BILL
MADISON, NJ -- Abbey Knoblauch went 6-for-8 for
the day to lead the King's College softball team to a doubleheader sweep
of host FDU-Florham in an important Freedom Conference doubleheader
sweep Saturday in Madison, NJ.
King's won the first game 4-3 before taking the nightcap 6-1. With the
win, King's improved to 13-5 overall and 4-2 in Freedom Conference play
while FDU slipped two 18-10 and 3-5.
In the opener, King's score all four runs in the second inning, Becky
Loring singled and moved to second on a bunt by Meaghan Galvin. Kelsey
Shreaves would single home Loring. After Gretchen Tholen reached base on
an error, Knoblauch and Leanne Harvey smacked RBI singles before Lindsey
Hoerner drew a bases-loaded walk to score King's fourth run of the
inning. FDU would score three runs in the sixth but would draw no
closer.
Knoblauch finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI while Lauren DeCreny was
2-for-3 with one run and an RBI. Shreaves was the winning pitcher,
allowing just six hits with two strikeouts.
In the second game, the Lady Monarchs broke open a scoreless game with
three runs in the fifth inning. Harvey and Hoerner would both single
before DeCreny same through with her first career home run to give
King's a 3-0 lead. In the sixth inning, the Lady Monarchs added to their
lead when Knoblauch smacked a solo home run. Annie Drimones would walk
and advanced to third on a single by Harvey. Hoerner then lofted a
sacrifice fly to centerfield to plate Drimones, giving the Lady Monarchs
a 5-0 lead. King's added an insurance run in the top of the seventh
inning when DeCreny walked, moved to second base on a wild pitch, and
scored on a double by Katie Fry. The Devils would score their lone run
in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run.
Hoerner was the winning pitcher for King's, allowing six hits and
striking out three batters while also going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Knoblauch went 3-for-4 while DeCreny was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Harvey also added two hits in the game.
King's will host traditional national power Ithaca College Tuesday at
3:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields
