KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS OPENING DAY AT SALISBURY
SALISBURY, MD -- The King's College softball team split its first two
games at the Salisbury Invitational Tournament Friday at Salisbury
University, Md.
In its first game, the Lady Monarchs dropped an 8-1 decision to
Lynchburg College, but rebounded to down Virginia Wesleyan 9-1.
Against Lynchburg, Leanne Harvey was 1-for-2, including an RBI double in
the third inning to score Justine Maggio, who had walked. Abbey
Knoblauch also had a double while Mari Valonis added a single.
Kelsey Shreaves took the pitching loss, allowing five runs, four earned
on seven hits while striking out three batters. Lindsey Hoerner
pitched the final three innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits
with two strikeouts.
In the second game, Amanda Rizner tossed a complete-game five-hitter,
allowing one unearned run on five hits with two strikeouts. Valonis was
2-for-4 with a solo home run in the second inning. Knoblauch was also
2-for-4 with an RBI while Harvey was the third Lady Monarch to go
2-for-4 in the game.
Katie Fry and Hoerner each added RBI doubles while Julie Bidwell
went1-for-3 with an RBI.
Meaghan Galvin chipped in with a base
hit for King's.
The Lady Monarchs continue play on Saturday against an opponent to be
determined.
