APPLICANTS ENTERING AS FRESHMEN

Students entering as freshmen are required to meet King’s College admission requirements by:

• Submitting a college application.
• Pursuing a prescribed academic sequence for the first three years.
• Courses consist of liberal arts and preparatory science prerequisites for the later professional phase. During these first three years, students must fulfill all of the core requirements for the B.S. degree along with the following courses:

Progression Criteria:
At the end of each year of the pre-professional phase, the student’s performance will be reviewed by the PA Admission Committee to determine if there is to be further advancement in the program. Enrollment in the pre-professional program does not assure admission into the professional program.*

Academic requirements for advancement to the next year of the pre-professional phase are:

• A minimum overall GPA of 2.85 for year one and 3.00 for years two and three.
• A minimum GPA of 3.00  in all science courses.

Students who do not meet the above requirements for progression will be dismissed from the PA major, but may be able to remain at the College and choose another major provided they meet the general College academic standards.

At the completion of the spring semester of the sophomore year, students must complete a logging form supplied by the program. This form allows the student to document their patient care hours this far and confirms their intent to enter into the professional phase so long as they continue to meet the progressions criteria.

• Achieving a minimum of 500 hours of direct patient care, 400 of which must be completed by the second semester of the junior year.
• Meeting the above-stated academic requirements throughout their junior pre-professional year
• All students must have documented vaccinations or titers as follows: DPT series, polio series, MMR (2), varicella (provider documented illness or vaccine (2) or positive titer), TB test or negative chest x-ray, Hepatitis B vaccine or positive titer. These requirements are due to mandates of our clinical sites and for patient safety.
       Meningitis and yearly influenza vaccination are recommended though these are not required for admission to the professional phase of program.
• FBI Background Checks and Child Abuse Security Clearance
      All PA students are required to have a federal background check prior to starting the professional phase of the PA Program.  All Physician Assistant students must be fingerprinted for FBI Background Clearance, at the student's expense, prior to the first day of classes.
      Students must complete and submit, at the student's expense, a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Form prior to starting the program. The program will supply the student with this form which must be filed and cleared with the Childline and Abuse Registry, Department of Public Welfare, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
       A student who does not have a clear check may be denied access to hospitals and or clinical rotations. This may affect their ability to complete the Program. A check which is not clear may also affect one’s ability to sit for the PANCE exam, obtain professional licenses or institutional privileges. FBI background checks and The Child Abuse History Clearance Form check must be maintained on a yearly basis.  In an attempt to schedule clinical rotations, any information found on these checks will be disclosed to clinical facilities and preceptors. Background checks which reveal a felony offense may result in denial of admission and/ or dismissal from the Program.

APPLICANTS POSSESSING A BACCALAUREATE DEGREE

Applicants who already possess a baccalaureate degree in biology, science, or other major area, may apply to enter the professional phase of the master’s program if they have:

• Meet the academic prerequisites.
• Meet the selection requirements including a minimum of 500 hours of direct patient care.
• Achieved an overall G.P.A. of 3.00 or greater.
• Achieved a minimum G.P.A. of 3.00 or greater in all science courses.
• No grade less than a 1.75 "C-" will be accepted for any science courses.
• Take as a minimum the following science courses.
          Biology (8 credits)
          Chemistry (8 credits)
          Anatomy and Physiology (8 credits)
          Microbiology (4 credits)
