  Employment and Unemployment

    
Employment, hours, and earnings:

     National
- the Current Employment Statistics (CES) is a survey of payroll records covers over 300,000 businesses
          on a monthly basis and provides detailed industry data on employment, hours, and earnings of workers on nonfarm
          payrolls for the Nation

     State and Local - the Current Employment Statistics (CES) is a survey of payroll records covers over 390,000
          businesses on a monthly basis and provide detailed industry data on employment, hours, and earnings of
          workers on nonfarm payrolls for all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and
          over 270 metropolitan areas

     Labor Force Statistics:

     National - the Current Population Survey (CPS) is a monthly survey of households conducted by the Bureau
          of Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides a comprehensive body of data on the labor force,
          employment, unemployment, and persons not in the labor force.

     Local/Mass Layoffs - the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program produces monthly and annual
          employment, unemployment, and labor force data for Census regions and divisions, States, counties,
          metropolitan areas, and many cities, by place of residence

     UI-covered Employment, Wages - the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program publishes
          a quarterly count of employment and wages reported by employers covering 98 percent of U.S. jobs, available
          at the county, MSA, state and national levels by industry

     Occupational Employment - the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program produces employment
          and wage estimates for over 700 occupations

     Longitudinal Data - the National Longitudinal Surveys (NLS) are a set of surveys designed to gather information
          at multiple points in time on the labor market activities and other significant life events of several groups of
          men and women

 
  Prices and Living Conditions

     Consumer Price Indexes - the Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) program produces monthly data on changes
          in the prices paid by urban consumers for a representative basket of goods and services

     Producer Price Indexes - the Producer Price Index (PPI) program measures the average change over time
          in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output

     Import and Export Price Indexes - the International Price Program produces Import Price Indexes (MPI) and
          Export Price Indexes (XPI) containing data on changes in the prices of nonmilitary goods and services
          traded between the U.S. and the rest of the world

     Consumer Expenditures - the Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE) program consists of two surveys—
          the quarterly Interview survey and the Diary survey—that provide information on the buying habits of
          American consumers, including data on their expenditures, income, and consumer unit (families and single
          consumers) characteristics


  Compensation and Working Conditions

     National Compensation Survey - provides comprehensive measures of occupational earnings; compensation
          cost trends, benefit incidence, and detailed plan provisions. Detailed occupational earnings are available for
          metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas, broad geographic regions, and on a national basis. The index
          component of the NCS (ECI) measures changes in labor costs. Average hourly employer cost for employee
          compensation is presented in the ECEC.

     Employee Benefits - produces comprehensive data on the incidence (the percentage of workers with access to
          and participation in employer provided benefit plans) and provisions of selected employee benefit plans

     Employment Cost Trends - produces quarterly indexes measuring change over time in labor costs (ECI)
          and annual data measuring level of average costs per hour worked (ECEC)

     Occupational Compensation - provides comprehensive measures of occupational earnings; compensation
          cost trends, benefit incidence, and detailed plan provisions

     Occupational illnesses/Injuries/Fatalities - provides data on illnesses and injuries on the job and data on
          worker fatalities

     Collective Bargaining - provides information on major work stoppages. These are stoppages that involve 1,000
          workers or more and last a full shift or longer. Because of the complexity of disputes, BLS does not
          attempt to distinguish between strikes and lockouts in its data; both are included in the term "work stoppages."


  Productivity

     Labor and Industry:
          The Major Sector Productivity and Costs program produces quarterly and annual output per hour and unit
          labor costs for the U.S. business, nonfarm business, and manufacturing sectors. These are the productivity
          statistics most often cited by the national media.

          The Industry Productivity and Costs program produces annual measures of output per hour and unit labor
          costs for 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) industries in the
          U.S., featuring complete coverage in manufacturing, retail trade, and in wholesale trade. There is also
          nearly complete coverage in mining and accommodations and food services, as well as additional coverage
          in other sectors.

     Multifactor - measures the changes in output per unit of combined inputs. Indexes of MFP are produced for
          the private business, private nonfarm business, and manufacturing sectors of the economy. MFP is also
          developed for 2-and 3-digit Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) manufacturing industries, the railroad
          transportation industry, the air transportation industry, and the utility and gas industry


  Projections

     Employment - develops information about the labor market for the Nation as a whole for 10 years in the future
