POSITION: Tutorial
Coordinator
CLASSIFICATION: Administrative;
Exempt;
Full-Time (12 month)
DEPARTMENT: Academic Skills
Center
REPORTS TO: Director of Academic Skills Center
JOB FUNCTION:
Responsible for full-operation and management of extensive on-going tutorial
program.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
1.
Maintain
standards expected of the college’s Certified Reading and Learning Association certification
and complete application for recertification every 5 years.
2.
Recruit
and hire peer tutors for a robust program of support.
3.
Supervise
and evaluate student tutors during their tenure.
4.
Verifies
all tutor training experiences and maintains the database registry for issuing
individual CRLA Tutor Certification.
5.
Assess
student’s needs to determine the appropriate tutorial assistance.
6.
Coordinates
schedules for tutorial meetings between tutor and tutees.
7.
Maintain
a file on each tutee and monitor their progress throughout the semester by meeting
with tutors to discuss tutee’s progress and to suggest possible academic
referrals.
8.
Verifies
and approves tutor payroll documentation and approves time entries via
WebAdvisor.
9.
Outreach
to at-risk students to encourage use of services.
10.
Confer
with other professionals such as athletic coaches, counselors, advisors,
faculty and other administrators.
11.
Review
the tutorial budget and make requests when necessary.
12.
Develop
and maintain excel spreadsheets and databases for the Academic Skills Center to
collect, summarize and prepare semester-end reports.
13.
Project
tutoring needs and coordinate for ensuing semester(s).
14.
Assists
in objectives for the long-range and annual implementation plans.
15.
Participate
in the supervision and evaluation of the performance of the Academic Skills Center
Office Coordinator
16.
Hires,
supervises and evaluates the Academic Skills Center student aides
17. Consults with the First-year Academic Studies Program
Coordinator and Disability Services Coordinator on the best approach for
peer-based academic assistance for students with disabilities.
18. Serves, as needed, as test proctor for students
require extended and/ or alternative testing
19. Assists in the day-to-day management of the Academic
Skills Center
20. Provides student data and other information for the
college’s retention efforts to include Achievmeent
Plus and College Entry.
21.
Staff
member for Achievement Plus Program/Act 101
NON-ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS :
1.
Assumes
other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
2.
Implement
at least one Achievement Plus personal development group each academic year.
3.
Seek
professional development opportunities through workshop and-or conference
participation.
4.
Participates
in Fall Orientation activities
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Master’s Degree preferred- Background in an educational setting. Ability
to work with diverse populations, Proficient in Excel and Database Management
Systems. Well-developed interpersonal skills.
Effective written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational and managerial
skills. Ability to motivate, direct, and
guide individuals. Ability to work in a team setting.
WORKING
CONDITIONS: Typical office working conditions.
Finger dexterity, ability to sit for long periods of time.
